Well, that didn’t take long. Mere days ago, the news arrived that Universal – spurred on by the massive success of the first sequel – has moved quickly to put another Pitch Perfect film into active development. Now we know that linchpins Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson will be aca-back for more.
Though it’s not yet known what sort of plot contortions returning writer Kay Cannon will need to work out to have Kendrick’s Beca and Wilson’s Fat Amy return when they – spoiler warning – graduated at the end of the latest movie, we’re sure there’s an easy enough way to have the characters able to interact with whoever else is hired.
With the second film now surpassing $259.7 million globally, the real question was how quickly the studio would act to reunite the team and make another movie. A bigger issue will be a director, though we would imagine that Elizabeth Banks, who has appeared in both, produced both and directed the second, will be given the first crack at that particular gig.

Whoever does end up calling the shots will need to have the film ready for July 21, 2017, which is so far only occupied by an untitled animated movie from 20th Century Fox. Given the steamroller success of Pitch Perfect 2, we can’t imagine many other big titles will want to compete.
