After a promising few months of casting chatter and performers confirming that they’ll return for the sequel, there is more good news today on the Zoolander 2 front. Spotted by Italian site Bad Taste (and reported by Coming Soon) Ben Stiller and Rome’s Mayor Ignazio Marino have announced that the new film will shoot in the city for 12 weeks.
Though it looked like Justin Theroux, who has co-written the film with Stiller, might not be directing as originally planned, it appears he remains attached, with Stiller returning as the Blue Steel-loving dimwit alongside the likes of Christine Taylor, Owen Wilson and potentially Will Ferrell, with Penelope Cruz also involved.
With a 12-week shoot planned in and around Rome’s famous Cinecittà Studios in the spring, the location appears to confirm what Stiller told Empire about the film’s plot a few years ago. “It’s ten years later and most of it is set in Europe. I don’t want to give away too much, but it’s basically Derek and Hansel ten years later – though the last movie ended on a happy note, a lot of things have happened in the meantime. Their lives have changed and they’re not really relevant anymore. It’s a new world for them.” Looks like 2016 will be the year **Zoolander **finally comes back...
