Zombieland Writers To Pen Deadpool?

Devin Faraci over at **CHUD has received a hot tip (oh, please…) that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers of the wonderful Zombieland, may be about to close a deal to have a stab at Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine spin-off, Deadpool. Or, to give it its presumed full title, X-Men Origins: Wolverine Origins: Deadpool (X-Men)

Now, nothing’s set in stone just yet, but if this happens – and Devin thinks it’s very possible – our excitement levels for Deadpool just kicked up a notch. Zombieland was more fun than a flock of Go Go Hamsters, in large part to the wry dialogue and characterisations crafted by Reese and Wernick.

Imagine the non-stop babbling of Jesse Eisenberg’s Columbus combined with the bad-ass one-liners of Woody Harrelson’s Tallahassee, and you’ve got pretty much the perfect recipe for Deadpool, the Merc With A Mouth (that won’t be sewn shut this time), played by Ryan Reynolds. This, given Reynolds’ way with a witticism, is a very good thing indeed.

It’s very early days yet, especially with Reynolds on Green Lantern duty, but if this brings Deadpool one inch closer to wiping out the bad taste left in Empire’s collective mouth by that Weapon X abomination, then we applaud the hiring-to-be of Reese and Wernick. Do you...?
