The TV miniseries take on Rosemary’s Baby has been in the development womb since at least July last year, when NBC boss Bob Greenblatt announced that his network was planning a re-telling of Ira Levin’s novel, the story so memorably adapted by Roman Polanski in 1968. For a long time, the show has been without a star, but word comes via Variety that **Star Trek’**s Zoe Saldana will be the one having demonspawn issues.

She’s signed on to produce and star in the tale about a young wife who moves with her husband to a Paris apartment that boasts a history so chequered it makes a chess board look empty by comparison. When she falls pregnant after months of trying, she starts to fear that her mysterious neighbours and even her other half might have horrific plans for the future of her child.

“Zoe has proven that she is one of our most gifted actresses and we think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin’s infamous novel,” said NBC miniseries chief Quinn Taylor. “With Zoe leading the cast under the direction of Agnieszka Holland, this reimagined event mini-series is off to a great start.”

The Secret Garden’s Holland will work from a script by James Wong and Scott Abbott, with plans for it to hit American screens later this year. Meanwhile, Saldana fans will be able to see her, painted green, in Guardians Of The Galaxy later this summer.
