With Universal going big on its Dark Universe series of classic monster movies, it appears Warner Bros. and Legendary are settling on the umbrella title Monsterverse for their Godzilla/Kong/other creature features. We infer that from a new announcement that Zhang Ziyi is joining the Godzilla sequel, known as Godzilla: King Of The Monsters.
And unusually for a casting report on the film, we know a little bit about what she'll be doing, as the companies apparently have plans for her to recur in the likes of 2020's Godzilla Vs. Kong. She's on to play a significant figure within the secretive scientific Monarch organisation, as first established in 2014's movie and continued in Kong: Skull Island.
This is just the latest piece of casting for the movie, which already boasts Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford and Ken Watanabe among its ensemble. Michael Dougherty is directing from the script he wrote with Zach Shields.
Godzilla: King Of The Monsters will be out on 22 March, 2019.
