Hmm, not quite the casting we would have predicted for this one. Susanne Bier, of Things We Lost In The Fire, has been signed up to direct culture / language-clash comedy for some time now, but the news that Hugh Grant and Ziyi Zhang are being lined up to star in it has just come today, and they seem a bit of an odd couple.
The story sees a British film star (Zhang - just kidding!) signed up to star in a film directed by a Chinese director (Zhang - not kidding this time). Initially, he rather fancies her flirtatious translator, but soon realises that his director is the true object of his affections. Only problem is, there's a language barrier, and the translator isn't stickling closely to his script.
The script was written by Borat's Dan Mazer and Jamie "brother of executive producer Richard" Curtis. It should surprise you not at all to learn that Working Title is producing the film.
But, much as we like both stars, is anyone else having trouble seeing them together? With a 19 year age gap, wouldn't Gong Li or Michelle Yeoh, say, have been a better choice for Grant?
