One of the most underwhelming elements of the theatrically-released Justice League was its big bad. To put it mildly, Steppenwolf was no Thanos – and it’s no surprise that he wasn’t originally intended as the movie's uber-threat. Instead, that was going to be the more menacing Darkseid, as teased in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Now that the long-rumoured Snyder Cut of Justice League is officially on its way to HBO Max in 2021, under the title Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the director has shared the first clip from his upcoming version – featuring Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince, and a sneak peek at Darkseid himself.
It’s a creepy teaser, with an ominous voice warning: “The bell’s already been rung. And they’ve heard it. Out in the dark, among the stars, ding-dong, the god is dead.” Eeshk. Snyder also confirmed that we’ll see more from the retooled Justice League at DC’s upcoming FanDome event – a 24-hour digital convention for all things DC Comics taking place on 22 August. Other properties confirmed for FanDome include Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman, the long-awaited Wonder Woman 1984, James Gunn’s reboot-quel The Suicide Squad, as well as Shazam! and its upcoming Dwayne Johnson-starring antihero spin-off Black Adam.
After years of campaigning from fans, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will see the filmmaker return to the project that he originally left midway through production due to a family tragedy. The Warner Bros streaming service is expected to spend in the region of $20-$30 million in order to complete Snyder’s significantly different, extended vision – with reports that it may be released in episodes due to its length. "You probably saw one-fourth of what I did," the director told The Hollywood Reporter. "It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie." Bring on the Darkseid.
