It remains one of the more controversial DC movies, yet Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice also generates plenty of enthusiasm. And now, the director has taken to social service Vero to offer a live commentary for the film, in which he offered all sorts of behind-the-scenes nuggets.
Among them? The revelation that the brief cameo – and death – of Jimmy Olsen (Michael Cassidy) was intended to spark storylines down the road, even if it didn't end up paying off in the Justice League film that eventually arrived (which was no fault of Snyder's, given the family tragedy that impacted his work). Then there's Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor, who came across as distinctly weird, but with a point. "Lex is a very interesting sort of study, he says. "We wanted him to be less of a corporate brute and more an intellectual, a modern study of what a super-villain might look like."
And Snyder confirmed that Harry Lennix, who played General Swanwick, was actually appearing as the Martian Manhunter, AKA J'onn J'onzz, and that the actor was guided to inhabit the role as though he were an alien doing his best to impersonate a human.
It's a fascinating insight into a divisive movie from the man who made it. You can see the whole thing below.
