Even with the DC movie universe's recent expansion, the development of a Shazam! adaptation has been slow going. But the elements have begun to come together, and Zachary Levi has boarded the movie to play Captain Marvel.
Shazam! focuses on teenager Billy Batson, who can become the hero by saying the word, “Shazam!” which grants him the powers of six mythological gods. Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg is making the movie, which is scheduled to be the next DCEU entry to see cameras, once he finds the rest of the cast, including a Billy. Dwayne Johnson is playing the character's nemesis, Black Adam, but has been spun off into his own movie.
Levi is best known for more comedic roles such as TV's Chuck, but does already have a foothold in the Marvel universe, playing Fandral in two of the Thor films for Marvel.
