Zach Galifianakis Up For Muppets?

He often looks and acts like he was created in Jim Henson’s creature workshop, so we’re happy to learn that The Hangover’s Zach Galifianakis might just be ready to work with Henson’s actual characters, with word that he’s in talks to join the new Muppet movie being spearheaded by Jason Segel.

The currently untitled film (formerly known as The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made) sees Segel starring with a new Muppet named Walter as they try to recruit the rest of the felt-covered legends to help save an old film studio.

Rashida Jones, Amy Adams and Chris Cooper are already up for roles, with Cooper playing the evil oilman who wants to demolish the building so he can drill for the black gold lurking beneath its foundations.

Flight of the Conchords’ James Bobin is directing from a script by Segel and Forgetting Sarah Marshall/Get Him to the Greek’s Nick Stoller.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Galifianakis’ Due Date co-star Robert Downey Jr dropped a hint that ZG was considering a role in the film, and now we just hope he wasn’t kidding around. The idea of Galifianakis clowning around with Kermit and co is one that brings joy to our Muppet-loving hearts, not least for that fact that it could potentially also lead to one of the furry types turning up on Between Two Ferns. Animal vs. Zach, anyone?
