File this one under "concepts we thought would be too strange to work as movies"... The team behind occasional Zach Galifianakis interview/comedy/odd behaviour show Between Two Ferns have kicked off work on a film adapted from the show.
Netflix, proving that the company will apparently fund anything, has opened its considerable wallet to facilitate this one, with Galifianakis (and executive producer/director Scott Aukerman) secretly kicking off work on a film drawn from the series, which ran on Funny Or Die between 2008 and 2014, with one arriving this year{
For those who might be unfamiliar, Between Two Ferns features Galifianakis playing a variation on himself, interviewing celebrities (Brad Pitt, Steve Carell and even Barack Obama among them) with the questions turning often to the awkward and uncomfortable, the host slinging barbs like a fisherman, looking for a reaction from his guests. The result was usually funny, but it's still a little hard to see the concept stretching to movie length. Nevertheless, The Hollywood Reporter has heard that Peter Dinklage, Keanu Reeves and the host's Hangover pals Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms have either shot appearances or are scheduled to show up.
There's also a concern that the actual hot iron period for the show might have passed, but we're happy to see Galifianakis getting the chance to try something on this level.
