Zac Efron has dropped out of the Footloose remake, in sad news for fans of musical film. Yes, he's punched his card and is playing so cool, and decided that the last thing he needs at this stage in his career is another musical. After all, he doesn't want life passing him by.

Paramount confirms: "Footloose is a project we've longed to see re-booted for a new generation. While Zac is no longer attached, we remain excited and committed to the collective brain trust of Kenny Ortega, Neil Meron and Craig Zaden, who will reinvigorate the franchise."

In other words, they haven't hit the ceiling and aren't tearing up the town as a result of his departure, and don't need us to pull them offa their knees. In fact, they've kept feet on the ground and taken hold of their collective souls in pursuit of this remake. We're sure that they'll dig way down in their heart, and find that they can fly once they cut Footloose.

Apologies for the inclusion of all those theme-tune lyrics. But we couldn't resist cuttin' loose with them. Count them all!
