As he moves ever further into the post-Disney/High School Musical phase of his career, Zac Efron is wielding a little more clout. He’s now teaming up with Akiva Goldsman to produce – and, for Efron, at least, potentially star in – The Falling.

Generated within Warner Bros., the project is being kept behind a strict wall of secrecy, and little from the plot has so far leaked save for The Hollywood Reporter digging up that it’s an edgy thriller that has something to do with an otherworldly being. Could the “falling” mean it features angels? In any case, we should probably take care not to confuse it with The Following, The Fall, **Fallen **or Olympus Has Fallen.

We’ll find out when – and if – the film gets made. The next step is for Goldsman, Efron and the other producers to track down the right screenwriter to take on the challenge of getting the story into script shape.

Efron has been busy with his acting career, most recently working on Are We Officially Dating? with Miles Teller and Imogen Poots and kicking off work this week on JFK drama Parkland with Paul Giamatti.

Goldsman is at work on his directorial debut, novel adaptation Winter’s Tale, which features Colin Farrell, Jennifer Connelly and Jessica Brown Findlay.
