The last time Emma Stone worked with director Yorgos Lanthimos, the result was the scathing, snarktastic The Favourite. So we're naturally happy to learn that they're planning to team up again, this time for an unusual (which, let's be honest, is typical Lanthimos) take on Frankenstein. called Poor Things.

Adapted from Alasdair Gray's novel, the story would find Stone as Bella Baxter, “a volatile, oversexed, emancipated woman and a female Frankenstein.” After drowning herself to escape her abusive husband, Bella’s brain is replaced by that of her unborn child. It's all according to a report from The Film Stage, which spotted a notice in Production Weekly about a planned autumn 2021 shoot.

And The Favourite connections don't end there, as that film's Oscar-nominated writer Tony McNamara has once again worked on the script, with his agency confirming his participation and the film's existence at all. Lanthimos had a busy slate of potential projects, one of which he's actually worked on – a short film for the Greek National Opera that just so happens to feature Stone.

As for Poor Things, assuming it does go ahead, we'd expect to see it in 2022...
