Yo-Landi Vi$$er For Dragon Tattoo?

A contender, or just inspiration?

Yo-Landi Vi$$er For Dragon Tattoo?

David Fincher's English-language re-working of Stieg Larsson's mammoth-selling The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is gathering a decent head of steam in Hollywood. There's talk of Daniel Craig playing the lead role of disgraced journo and amateur sleuth Mikael Blomkvist, but the casting of Aspergers cyber-punk Lisbeth Salander (played by Noomi Rapace in the Swedish version) is proving trickier. Has Fincher, who's said to want a relative unknown, found his Lisbeth in Yo-Landi Vi$er?

Vi$$er (yes, you have to spell it that way) is a part of the stunt South African rap group Die Antwoord, who scored a massive viral online hit with their (very much NSFW) Enter the Ninja video earlier this year, and just signed to Interscope records (former home of Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson, current home of Lady Gaga, and once intricately involved with Suge Knight and Dr Dre's Death Row). Neill Blomkamp is directing their next video.

Vi$$er is the diminutive, peroxide-blonde-mulleted, squeaky-voiced singer in the group, and you get a good look at her right at the start of this clip{ =nofollow}. Vulture's sources say that she's exactly what Fincher is looking for, although what seems likely is that he means her as an example rather an an actual contender: she has no acting experience per-se, unless you want to argue, as many have, that she's very successfully acting a rap-star right now.

Either way, whether she's just the template or whether Fincher actually wants her to star, it's an interesting clue to the director's mindset. Early rumours suggested Carey Mullligan and Kristen Stewart as potentials. Whatever you make of her, Vi$$er is very far from those guys.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Fincher-style, starts shooting in September, with Scott Rudin producing, and a script by Steve Zaillian. Die Antwoord's $O$ album is available to stream for free on their website.
