Given that there are 13 dwarves in the company who accompany Bilbo, Gandalf and co on their mission in the two Hobbit films, the fact that Peter Jackson and his team are revealing their portraits piecemeal means that it could be a while before we see them all. It’s confusing – why would Jackson choose to do it this way when he knows we’ll all have to write loads of stories and keep talking about the mo……oh, right. Anyhoo, get a load of Kili and Fili below, courtesy of MSN.
Fili is played by Dean O’Gorman, a veteran of the likes of Hercules, Xena and Farscape. Kili is Aidan Turner, probably best known for playing tortured vampire Mitchell on the excellent Being Human.
The two dwarves are among the youngest of the company, and part of the royal line of Durin. Raised by their tough-as-nails uncle Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage), they’re fairly naive about the ways of the world of Middle earth, and not exactly well travelled. So you can understand their enthusiasm for making the journey to the Lonely Mountain and their horror when they realise just how nasty a place it can be.
The crew making The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again are currently enjoying a well-earned break (except, perhaps for Jackson and some of his key team, who are editing the footage they've shot and preparing for the next filming block) but will be back in the mines this September.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will grace our screens on December 14, 2012.
