Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is having a real career surge of late, off the back of excellent work in Watchmen, The Trial Of The Chicago 7 and more. He's now scored a new job, joining Jake Gyllenhaal in the cast of Michael Bay's new action thriller Ambulance.
Chris Fedak wrote the script, based on Danish Film Ambulancen, and the screenplay had been paddling through the murk of development for years before Bay decided he wanted to make it as his next movie. While the story has yet to be officially confirmed, it apparently has the feel of a '90s action thriller – though also heavier on character than some of them – following two brothers (Gyllenhaal would play the elder of the pair) who steal an ambulance. Trouble is, there's already a female paramedic and a patient in critical condition aboard.
When the news broke last month, Dylan O'Brien and Eiza Gonzalez were mentioned as being in talks for the brother and paramedic roles. Variety's story about Abdul-Mateen only mentions that Gonzalez is aboard.
Abdul-Mateen had a role in the latest Matrix movie and will be seen as the lead in Nia DaCosta's Candyman when it arrives next August.
