Good news and bad news from the world of Legion, Noah Hawley’s tripped-out X-Men drama series, starring Dan Stevens as unstable mutant David Haller. The acclaimed FX series is returning for another season, though Hawley has confirmed that its third will be its last – but with the saga wrapping up, there are some exciting casting announcements hinting at what’s to come. Anyone with an in-depth knowledge of Haller in the comics will be aware that his dad is none other than Professor X himself, Charles Xavier – and he’s set to pop up in the coming episodes.

Sadly James McAvoy and Sir Patrick Stewart won’t be starring in Legion though, with the role going to Harry Lloyd. He memorably played Daenerys’ brother Viserys Targaryen in the opening season of Game Of Thrones, also starring in The Theory of Everything and The Riot Club.

David Haller’s mother Gabrielle will be played by Stephanie Corneliussen, best known from her work in Mr. Robot. The casting news was confirmed at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, where it was also revealed that Legion’s final season will hit screens in June.

With Legion’s Season 2 finale seeing Haller blossom into his villainous destiny, it remains to be seen where this final run will take him – back towards the light, or sinking further into the darkness. If they follow the comics, it’ll be the latter – but when has this ever been a show to take the expected path?
