Following yesterday’s big tease on the Facebook site, the first trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s** X-Men: First Class** has finally arrived, and you can watch it in mutant-vision below.
While it’s always tough to tell what a film will be like from an initial trailer, Vaughn appears to be opting for stylish moodiness over blockbuster bombast, though from the looks of some of the later shots there’s going to be plenty of CG eye candy on display.
The film, of course, traces the origins of the X-Men team, back in the 1960s when America and Russia were in the grip of the Cold War, a simmering tension that threatened to explode at any minute. Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lensherr (Michael Fassbender) were still the best of friends, dedicated to helping other mutants and also making sure humanity didn’t destroy itself. But then something changed…
It’s been a long, difficult shoot for the film (January Jones told Empire this past weekend that she still had some filming time left on it), but from the looks of this first trailer, Vaughn is bringing some intriguing work to the screen.
Take a look at the trailer above (YouTube, Fox, really?) and let us know your thoughts. X-Men: First Class arrives on May 30.
