After The Last Stand gave short shrift to perhaps the most famous and fan-favoured X-Men story, it’s up to X-Men: Dark Phoenix to get it right. Not only is the latest film in the First Class timeline taking another run at Jean Grey’s cosmic corruption, but it might also be the final X-Men film in the Fox saga, with the property expected to move to the MCU as part of Disney's Fox buy-out. Teasing those high stakes for Simon Kinberg's film is a brand new Dark Phoenix poster, offering a fresh look at the current band of mutants in play, and hinting at Jean’s inner conflict.

There’s some interesting mirroring going on here – most of the X-Men team can be found on the left hand side where Jean is depicted in her yellow and blue uniform. However, Beast appears on the right hand side, where Jean is in her Phoenix get-up and molten cracks hint at her raw, explosive abilities. In the bottom right are Selene (Kota Eberhardt) and Red Lotus (Andrew Stehlin), two new characters in the series, while Jessica Chastain’s still-unidentified extra-terrestrial character can be seen lurking underneath it all.

We’ll be seeing even more from Dark Phoenix in the near future, with a fresh trailer on the way – UK readers, expect that to be on the web when you wake up tomorrow (Thursday). In the meantime, keep studying this new one-sheet ahead of the film’s arrival on 7 June.
