As announced last autumn, such is the sprawling epic-ness of the history of hip-hop legends the Wu-Tang Clan that a mere two-hour Straight Outta Compton style biopic wasn't enough for them. Instead, Wu-Tang: An American Saga arrives as a ten-episode Hulu series. Protect ya neck as you watch the new trailer.
Inspired by The Rza's books The Wu-Tang Manual and Tao of Wu, the series is set in early ’90s New York at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic. It follows Bobby Diggs, aka The RZA, who strives to unite a dozen young men that are torn between music and crime but eventually rise to become the unlikeliest of American success stories.
Alex Tse (Superfly) and The RZA are the writers and exec-producers, with Wu-Tang Clan members Method Man, Ghostface Killa, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, GZA, and the estate of the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard also involved at various levels. Ashton Sanders, Shameik Moore, Siddiq Saunderson, Marcus Callender, Zolee Griggs and Erika Alexander are among the unwieldy wu-cast.
“I’m delighted to be partnering with Hulu and Imagine to explore the vast story of the Wuniverse,” said The RZA last year.
Wu-Tang: An American Saga will bring its muthafuckin ruckus to Hulu in the States on September 4.
