Blockbuster star of the year, Sam "Terminator/ Avatar / Clash Of The Titans" Worthington is taking a little holiday, as he joins **The Tourist **with Charlize Theron. He steps into a role formerly earmarked for Tom Cruise.
The English language remake of French thriller Anthony Zimmer was set to star Cruise, who upped and left in favour of an as-yet untitled James Mangold project, whilst Theron signed a while back to play the Interpol agent who uses the tourist (now Worthington) as bait to attract an ex-lover and wanted criminal.
Giving the whole thing a slightly more reserved flavour, the spy film will be directed by Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day's Bharat Nalluri, from the screenplay written by Julian 'costume drama' Fellowes, Bill Wheeler and Chris McQuarrie, adapted from Jerome Salle's original French material. It sounds like Worthington's going from action movie to prestige picture on this evidence.
Filming kicks off in January with **The Tourist **due for cinemas later in 2010.
