Have you ever had a relly bad day made considerably worse by that insufferable guy at work who who seems to be constantly happy? Ever wondered how he does it? Well, according to new film The Optimist it could all be explained by faulty genes. Following in the footsteps 50 First Dates and other rom-coms using unfortunate medical defects to hilarious effect, The Optimist concerns the presumably cheery exploits of a man born without the gene for unhappiness. The exact opposite of the affliction suffered by Alan Hansen. The role of this happy individual is being developed for Seann William Scott, a man not entirely unfamiliar to madcap comedic capers. The difference this time is that no amount of torment can bring him down as his DNA makes even the slightest strop a physical impossibility. Much like licking your elbow. Reversing the usual schtick of a miserable down-trodden soul discovering a new lust-for-life, The Optimist will see Scott's sunny perspective change truly challenged when he falls in love with a cynical, hardbitten reporter. No member of the Empire team has so far been approached for the role.
