Though the movie may have lost one member of the Hunger Games cast (Jennifer Lawrence left after planning to play the lead for a while), it appears Destin Cretton’s latest might have another ready to sign on. Woody Harrelson is in talks to join The Glass Castle.
Brie Larson is attached to star now in the film, which writers including Andrew Lanham, Marti Noxon and Cretton himself have scripted based on Jeannette Walls’ memoir. Her parents, Rex and Rose Mary Walls, were free spirits who lead a nomadic existence. Her mother was more concerned with painting and writing than, say, making dinner for her four kids, while her father could be inspiring and educational, but only when sober. The parents crumbled as their money ran low, and Jeanette and her siblings ended up more-or-less raising themselves.
Harrelson has spent plenty of time playing alcoholic characters you root for – Hunger Games’ Haymitch among them – so he knows how to deliver on a role like this. The Glass Castle will likely have to wait until Larson has finished exploring dangerous territory in Kong: Skull Island, so we’d expect Cretton to roll his cameras next year. And, as if you didn’t already know, Harrelson returns to our screens with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, which is out on November 19.
