Director Patty Jenkins is cranking the cameras right now on Warner Bros. and DC's stand-alone Wonder Woman, which stars Gal Gadot. Now we know who will be playing the title character's mother, with Connie Nielsen added to the cast.
Nielsen is aboard to play Queen Hippolyta, ruler of the Amazons, and mother of Princess Diana, with Robin Wright playing the heroine's aunt. Nicole Kidman had been circling the role of Diana's mother, but her duties elsewhere mean she can't take it.
Wonder Woman will explore Diana's origins and home, plus her first encounter with American airman Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), who crash-lands on Paradise Island and meets the heroine. According to Pine, the film is partly set during World War I.
Jenkins is shooting the movie in the UK and Italy, working from a script by Jason Fuchs and featuring a case that also includes David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Danny Huston, Lucy Davis and Saïd Taghmaoui. It'll be out on June 23, 2017 in the US, with no solid date set for the UK just yet. But Gadot's Wonder Woman will make her bow in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, due here on March 25.
