You may know her best from her on-screen work in Pitch Perfect, A Simple Favour, Twilight and more – but with Woman Of The Hour, Anna Kendrick is also moving behind the camera. She both stars in and directs the new Netflix drama, which tells the based-on-a-true-story of a woman who went looking for love on a 1970s TV show_,_ and ended up facing grave danger at the hands of her suitor. Watch the new trailer below.

It’s only a short teaser, but remarkably notches up the discomfort that Kendrick’s character, aspiring actress Cheryl, is feeling whilst on a date with Daniel Zovatto’s Rodney Alcala, who she first met on the Blind Date-style show. When Cheryl says something Rodney doesn’t like, the air changes; he asks for another round, but Cheryl tries to convey her discomfort to the waitress; outside, he corners her to get her number. It’s a chilling glimpse of the full film to come, which is based on real-life serial killer Alcala’s appearance on The Dating Game in the midst of a murder spree_,_ and sees Kendrick making her directorial debut.

Written by Ian McDonald, and also stars Tony Hale, Jedidiah Goodacre, Kelly Jake and Max Lloyd-Jones, Woman Of The Hour is streaming on Netflix from 18 October.
