Woman In Black Goes 3D

Ah, how exciting it is to talk about release formats. Steel yourselves then for the news that two upcoming horror projects, Paul WS Anderson's **Resident Evil: Afterlife **and James Watkins' The Woman in Black, will both be at the bleeding end of cutting edge.

We knew Resident Evil 4 was 3D of course - and proper 3D, not the retro-fitted Clash of the Titans version - but the announcement has just arrived that it will also be released in IMAX (although, curiously, not digital IMAX, it seems). Anderson is seriously going all-out for what is the third sequel in quite an unloved franchise. But it means a vastly huge, 3D Milla Jovovich, so you'll hear no complaints from us.

Hammer Films' new Woman in Black however, is an odder prospect for 3D, since Susan Hill's awesomely creepy source novel doesn't obviously lend itself to FX gimmickery (although one scene does spring to mind from the 1989 ITV version that could make for a guaranteed popcorn-spiller).

The story involves a solicitor arriving in a small market town to deal with the estate of a recently deceased spooky widow, and gradually piecing together a mystery whilst being haunted left, right and centre. Plenty of opportunity for things to go bump, we guess. But if the modish technology gives you the shivers, take heart from the knowledge that James Watkins directed Eden Lake, and Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Startdust, X-Men: First Class) has written the screenplay.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is out in September, and The Woman in Black will start shooting at around the same time.
