Those lovable rogues over at Comingsoon.net have confirmed that the first trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the first and potentially most lucrative of the X-Men franchise spin-offs, will debut in cinemas on December 12.
That’s the day the earth slows down a bit for The Day The Earth Stood Still, of course, and now the Keanu Reeves sci-fi movie might stand to make a little bit of extra cash from fanboys who’ll line up to see the trailer on the big screen, some time before it shows up online or on TV.
We’re a little surprised, to be honest, that Fox didn’t put the trailer out in front of Australia, which opens in the States this week, but perhaps they didn’t want to confuse and frighten audiences who’d shown up for a spot of Hugh Jackman in romantic lead mode by showing them Hugh Jackman in snarling, stabbing, ‘urgh, argh’ mode.
There are no details yet on what the trailer will actually show, but we can expect: lots of swipey claw action, lots of big hair, lots of Jackman growling dialogue in that unbelievably cool, new-Clint-Eastwood manner of his, lots of action, and first glimpses of Liev Schreiber as Victor Creed and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.
Oh, and for the ladeez, there might even be a shot of Jackman with his shirt off. Again. Honestly, Hugh, put 'em away, you're not impressing anyone. Apart from Helen O'Hara... and every woman we know. Bastard.
So, all in all, pretty darn exciting, then. And, with Wolverine not set to open until May, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to book our tickets for December 12.
