If you’re a fan of The Witcher, Netflix knows you’ll be continuing to toss your coins its way in the coming months. The streamer recently confirmed that Season 2 is officially arriving in December this year – and before then, there’s another Witcher-shaped treat coming your way. Anime film The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf offers a different look into the fantasy universe of monster-hunting sorcerers – this one doesn’t hinge on Henry Cavill’s Geralt, but follows the younger incarnation of his mentor and fellow Witcher Vesemir, voiced here by Theo James. The first trailer has arrived, and you can watch it here.
Even in animated form, this one looks to have all the creepy monster action, expansive worlds, and steamy bath scenes that made the first season such a hit. It helps, too, that it’s based on the hugely popular novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, which also formed the basis for the hugely popular Witcher video games. Nightmare Of The Wolf comes from Korean animation house Studio Mir from director Kwang Il Han, and is produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, showrunner on The Witcher. And the anime film is niftily pitched, since Killing Eve’s Kim Bodnia will pop up as an Vesemir in the upcoming Season 2. You’ll get to learn his full backstory when Nightmare Of The Wolf comes to Netflix on 23 August.
Elsewhere, The Witcher-verse is set to continue further – filming is soon set to kick off on live-action spin-off prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin, set 1200 years before the main show and depicting the origin to the Witchers, with the likes of Michelle Yeoh and Sophia Brown among the cast. Keep those coins coming, guys.
