The cast for the Sly Stallone-scripted Homefront was already eclectic, boasting a match up between Jason Statham and unlikely movie villain James Franco. Now it’ll feature Winona Ryder in a major role.
Adapted by Sly from Chuck Logan’s book, the plot finds former DEA agent Statham moving to a small town in the hopes of finding a quiet life. But because the sight of Statham gardening or sinking pints at the local bar would probably get dull eventually, he runs afoul of a villainous meth kingpin who goes by the name of Gator (Franco).
We’re guessing that Gator will have a small army backing him up because we suspect that a straight fight between the two would last for exactly as long as it took Statham to punch Franco’s face out through the back of his head (3.7 seconds, by our reckoning).
Ryder is on board to play a former biker chick who has linked up with Franco. Young actress Izabela Vidovic is playing Statham’s daughter.
Gary Fleder will call the shots, kicking off shooting next month in New Orleans. Ryder’s next going to be heard rather than seen in Frankenweenie, due here on October 17, and she’s just finished work on true-life mob killer drama The Iceman with Michael Shannon.
