Mexican-born director Luis Mandoki has signed on to direct The Winged Boy. The film, described as a "family film with a slice of magical realism", centres on a young boy who, er, grow wings and start to fly. It's set in a contemporary Irish village.

Never heard of it? Well, that's not surprising, as it's based on an unpublished story by Mary Hayley Bell, widow of the late John Mills. The screenplay was co-written by Crispian "Kula Shaker" Mills and Michael Geary, with Malia Scotch Marmo re-writing. The film is due to start shooting in Ireland and the UK in the spring.
