Oblivion, the graphic novel that Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski created and is now developing as a new project for Disney, has gathered plenty of attention at the studio. How can we tell? Try the fact that [the Mouse House has now hired **Departed](http://heatvision.hollywoodreporter.com/2010/09/william-monahan-oblivion-joseph-kosinski.htmlski.html) writer William Monahan to work on the script.
The sci-fi story takes place above and on a ruined future Earth, where years of nuclear war have left the surface uninhabitable and most of the planet’s civilisation living far above it in cities at cloud level.
But there are those who can tolerate the radiation-flooded land: dangerous alien scavengers who hunt for useful items and prey. They become a big challenge for one man when he’s sent down to repair a surface drone and discovers a woman in a crashed space ship trying to survive.
Kosinski originally planned the story as a movie, but finding no takers, he shifted it into the graphic novel world, making a deal with Radical Studios. The former commercials director has impressed Disney with his work on Legacy, and has been attached to a number of projects for the studio, including a Black Hole remake and a likely next Tron sequel. There’s no word yet on which of the possible films he’ll tackle, though of course he’s still busy putting the finishing touches to Jeff Bridges’ latest trip into the virtual world.
