That new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film just got a fair percentage better. 27 percent if you run it in Empire math. How so? William Fichtner is aboard in a currently unspecified role.

According to Deadline, the former Empire webchatter has joined the cast to play “a lead with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology” which, unless they’re changing the character and he’s Casey Jones, makes us immediately leap to Shredder, but we’d caution it could turn out to be something else. Not sure we see him as Krang

Turtles, which already features Megan Fox as April O’Neil, Will Arnett as an unknown character, Danny Woodburn as Splinter and Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek and Alan Ritchson as the four heroes in half-shells (working on set in** Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes**-style performance capture suits), has Wrath Of The Titans' Jonathan Liebesman calling the shots. Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes company are producing along with Paramount, and the script’s by Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Evan Daugherty.

Purporting to re-introduce the world to the Turtles, the film is set to hit our screens on August 15 next year.

Fichtner will be back on the big screen this year in** The Lone Ranger** (August 9) and then Elysium (September 20).
