With Stephen Sommers set to start directing his adaptation of Dean Koontz supernatural thriller novel Odd Thomas next month, he’s getting busy locking in more cast members. And now Willem Dafoe is in talks to play Sheriff Wyatt Porter in the movie.
Thomas will star Anton Yelchin as the hero, a cook who has clairvoyant powers and discovers that dark forces are threatening his desert hometown. He encounters a mysterious man with links to the coming troubles and needs some serious help from those around him.
“Those around him” include his girlfriend, the quirky Stormy Llewellyn, a role that has been hotly contested by young actresses. It looked like Lily Collins was all but set to play the part before she opted instead for Tarsem Singh’s take on Snow White. Last week, Californication’s Addison Timlin was in talks to snatch the role.
Dafoe’s Porter, meanwhile, is fully aware of Thomas’ ability to see dead people and assists him by creating cover stories to make sure the secret doesn’t get out, while also helping solve crimes. The actor was last seen in Miral, and will have a big role in Andrew Stanton’s** John Carter of Mars**, which will be out next year.
