Scott Cooper’s crime thriller **Out Of The Furnace **is letting no opportunity go to waste in the battle to land the best cast out there. With the movie now shooting, the latest name added to the sprawling line-up is Willem Dafoe.

Furnace, which began life as Brad Ingelsby’s script The Low Dweller, has since morphed into a project attracting nothing but the best talent. Christian Bale is starring as a man stuck in prison when his brother (Casey Affleck) dies at the hands of a violent crime ring.

Swearing revenge, Bale goes after those he holds responsible, including Woody Harrelson’s gangster boss. Forest Whitaker, Sam Shepard and Zoe Saldana are also among the cast as, respectively, a sheriff, the brothers' uncle and Bale's love interest. Dafoe will reportedly be playing a sleazy bookie in the film.

It’s perhaps not all that surprising that Furnace should be drawing in the accomplished names. It was originally a project that attracted both Ridley Scott and Leonardo DiCaprio, and they’re still on board as producers. Plus, with Cooper coming off** Crazy Heart,** which won Jeff Bridges an Oscar, he’s also become a director who people want to work with.

Dafoe, who most recently played Tars Tarkas in John Carter, has Stephen Somers’ fantasy book adaptation Odd Thomas and crime drama Tomorrow You’re Gone chugging through post-production.
