Since making his big screen debut in 2007, Will Poulter’s career has developed at a healthy rate. He’s mixed British comedy drama (Dexter Fletcher’s excellent 2011 pic Wild Bill) and big Hollywood movies, taking on a role in The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader. His next job looks set to thrust him into the world of YA adaptations, as he has an offer to star in Maze Runner.
Originally adapted from James Dashner’s novel by Noah Oppenheim, Maze Runner is set in a grim post-apocalyptic world and follows Thomas, who is mind-wiped and sent into a colony of boys trapped in an enormous maze. He soon discovers it’s all part of a mysterious test and that he has a destiny to become one of the ‘maze runners’ who can lead them to freedom.
Catherine Hardwicke had bee attached to direct, but last August, 20th Century Fox hired Wes Ball to take the job on the strength of his short Ruin.
Before he lands in the maze, however, Poulter will be seen in Julian Gilbey’s comedy drama Plastic and Rawson Thurber’s new pot comedy We’re The Millers, which arrives here on August 23.
