Continuing to look for ways to tempt people to sign up for its new DC Universe subscription service, the company has slowly been putting together the pieces for a Swamp Thing show. A batch of new casting has been announced, with Will Patton, Derek Mears and Andy Bean all now part of the series.
Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman are writing the show, with Len Wiseman attached as producer and director. It'll adapt the comic book world created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson that follows what happens when CDC researcher Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland (Bean) — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous... And the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
Mears will be slathered in prosthetics to play the creature part of the duo. As for Patton, he's on as Avery Sunderland, the de facto patriarch of his Louisiana hometown, always giving back to the community. His benevolent veneer, however, masks a ruthless determination to harness the power of the swamp for profit.
The show will hit the DC Universe service next year.
