Jonas Jonasson's comic novel The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared was successfully adapted into a Swedish film back in 2013. Now Will Ferrell and his Gary Sanchez team are giving the story another crack with The 100-Year-Old Man.
Not strictly a remake of the Swedish release, this will be going back to Jonasson's book, which originally hit shelves in 2012 and has gone on to sell more than 10 million copies worldwide. Jason George is part of the new version, hired to write the script about a man named Allan (Ferrell) who escapes from a nursing home on his 100th birthday. As he encounters different people on the run, we learn that he's been part of several huge events of the 20th century. Hopefully to keep things fresh, the new film will cherry pick some different memories.
Still, it would seem that the author approves of the new movie plan. "My character, Allan, knows the art of being funny just by being," Jonasson said in a statement picked up by Variety. "That is something Will Ferrell masters to perfection. Great humour with small measurements. I am happy that Allan is now in his hands." The next step will be to find a director.
