Will Ferrell’s name is attached to a lot of potential movies at the moment, which isn’t stopping studios from tempting him with the prospect of more work. Sony’s TriStar division has snapped up comedy pitch The Yank as a possible star vehicle for the Anchor-man.
The idea finds a mild mannered insurance courier (Ferrell, assuming he ends up starring; this thing is still in the embryonic stage) arriving in London and becoming an innocent pawn in a plot to steal the Crown Jewels. They’ve long been the target of thieves on film, with **Muppets Most Wanted **the most recent movie to use the idea.
Steve Pink, who recently delivered comedy remake About Last Night, is set to write the script with regular collaborator Jeff Morris. He’ll crack on to working on it even as he drags Hot Tub Time Machine 2 through the post-production process.
Though Ferrell is producing the film via his Gary Sanchez company, he has plenty of other movies vying for his attention, including two possible reunions with John C. Reilly and tennis pic Match Maker. He’s currently at work on prison comedy Get Hard alongside Kevin Hart and Alison Brie.
