Will Ferrell and Jason Momoa

Will Ferrell and Jason Momoa are not the natural choices that might leap into your head when asked to name comedy duos, but A) Ferrell has proven he can find laughs with unexpected people before (Mark Wahlberg for one) and B) Momoa has shown some solid funny chops, even if he doesn't often get a chance to display them on screen. They're now joining forces for a new untitled comedy pic.

Paramount has grabbed the pitch from writers Andy Mogel and Jarrad Paul (who scripted and directed The D Train and created short-lived comedy series The Grinder, which starred Rob Lowe as a TV lawyer who couldn't let go of his character when his time on the show ended), and they will work on the screenplay. It sounds like they're channelling a similar subject to their TV comedy, as the film will see Ferrell as a washed-up television star reuniting with the man who once played his son, and has since gone on to be a huge film star. The studio didn't release an official synopsis (it's still early days), but Deadline's sources slipped the site the idea of the story and the fact that it draws comparisons to Galaxy Quest and, somehow, Ocean's Eleven.

Nick Stoller and Ferrell's Gary Sanchez company are on to produce, and there's no word on a director yet, though Mogel and Paul could end up with the job. Ferrell will next be seen in suburban casino comedy The House (due 30 June) worked on Holmes And Watson and most recently started shooting Daddy's Home 2. Momoa has Netlix drama Frontier on screens and is busy filming Aquaman in Australia, with the superhero movie out on 5 October next year.
