Just watch those roles pile up for the so-hot-right-now Olivia Wilde following Tron: Legacy. With Cowboys and Aliens already in the can, and Now (the-project-formerly-known-as I'm.Mortal) on the way, we'll be seeing a lot more of her in months to come. Next on Wilde's list looks to be Kin, a thriller set to co-star Eric Bana and Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam.
Based on an original script by Zach Dean, the movie will be directed by Stefan Ruzowitsky, whose The Counterfeiters won the Oscar for best foreign-language film in 2007. The synopsis doing the rounds this morning gives us a garbled account of "two desperate sibling fugitives (Bana and Wilde) on the run who collide with the holiday homecoming of a troubled ex-boxer (Hunnam)", which makes it sound like a sort of Mickey & Mallory vs. Jake LaMotta.
Dean however, says the screenplay is the result of a vow he made to himself following a two-hour ordeal on a plane with malfunctioning landing gear, to write something about family. So while it is about a brother and sister who commit a robbery, kill a state trooper and head for the border, it also deals with themes of love, loyalty, and the things Dean decided were important while contemplating his existence at 35,000 feet. Since the ordeal, he's also quit his job as a teacher to pursue the Hollywood dream full-time, and he and his wife now have a three-year-old daughter.
Dean and Ruzowitsky have been developing the script for the last year or so, and have 2929 Productions (Good Night and Good Luck) backing them up. Shooting is scheduled to start in Canada next March.
