The first of the White-House-In-Peril movies for the year, Olympus Has Fallen, has already seen release this past weekend in the States, so it’s obviously time for Tinsel Town to move on and start getting us ready for Roland Emmerich’s take on the idea, White House Down. Arriving first are the teaser posters, which you can see below courtesy of Moviefone.
In Emmerich’s film, as opposed to Antoine Fuqua’s thriller, the threat to the President comes not from foreign soil but from a homegrown paramilitary group led by Jason Clarke (last seen on the other side of the US government’s terror war in Zero Dark Thirty).
Our hero this time around is Washington police officer John Cale (Channing Tatum), who is visiting the White House with his daughter. When Clarke’s group invades 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Cale must spring into action to save his family and protect the President (Jamie Foxx).
This being Emmerich, the posters represent the calm before the storm, with the White House (and various other landmarks of the US capital) very much still up. But how long will they stand? This is the man who has destroyed the White House before on screen, after all. We’re almost reminded of this from The Day Today.
Moviefone is promising the trailer any moment now, so we’d expect more bang and boom then. The film itself arrives on September 6. But if you can’t wait that long for Washington-based action, Olympus Has Fallen will be out here on April 17.
