The last time Matthew McConaughey starred in a film based on a true story that had people slinging narcotics, he won an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club. Now he's back, playing the father of one of America's most infamous – and youngest – drug dealers in White Boy Rick. The first trailer for the film has now arrived.

'71 director Yann Demange is behind the camera for this one, with newcomers Richie Merritt as Richard Wershe, Jr., who at the tender age of 14 became an undercover informant for local and federal law agencies before himself going on to become a major drug dealer in the mid-1980s. At 17, he was arrested with 17 pounds of cocaine in his possession and jailed for life, but there remain questions about how his early work as an informant contributed to his descent into crime.

McConaughey is his blue-collar father, Richard Wershe Sr, a worker at the local automotive plant in Detroit as the industry and the city's fortunes crumble. The film will be out on 7 December.
