Michael Crichton's Westworld, the 1973 film that the author made his directorial debut on, has already spawned a film sequel (1976's Futureworld) and a short-lived TV series (1980's Beyond Westworld), and is ready to live again thanks to executive producers J.J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan in the new HBO series set to debut this fall.

Not surprisingly, this version promises to take the original premise (a theme park for adults where, for the right price, any of their fantasies can come true) and deepen it. HBO has described the show as a "dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin."

Coming some time this fall, the series stars among others Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright and Tessa Thompson.

Westworld airs on Sky Atlantic in October. Below is a look at Westworld's past via trailers.
