Just when you thought Wes Craven was taking it easy from the horror genre, giving up directing his own scripts and letting other people remake his early work, he strikes back with a brand new movie and launches a production company all in one day.
Craven will pen and helm his first horror film in 12 years, and admits that he’s embarrassed to have left it this long. "It's appalling to me that you have to go back to 1994 to find an original that I wrote and directed, so this is very important to me,” he told Variety, adding, “It is rooted in the supernatural with a 16-year old central character, but it's more 'Sixth Sense' than a slasher film.”
While the untitled new pic won’t be directly produced by his new company Midnight Pictures – which will pump out $15 million-or-less films for Universal’s Rogue arm – Rogue will release it. And he’s hired Marianne Maddalena, a woman who has produced many of his movies, to run the new venture. Let’s hope this means we see more movies like A Nightmare On Elm Street and less Cursed.
