Now here’s a strange one. We’re duty-bound, because virtually every other website in the world is doing the same, to report that Wes Craven has been officially confirmed as the director of Scream 4, with shooting set to start in the spring.
Except Craven already confirmed this back in February, in a blog for the LA Times. But there you go: he’s been officially confirmed. Again.
Here’s what we know about Scream 4: in a ‘the gang’s all here’-style reunion, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette will all be back to play Sidney, Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley; and Craven will direct from a script by Kevin Williamson that will touch upon horror genres – Asian horror, torture porn, vampires – that have become popular since the Scream trilogy came to a sticky end back in 2000. No word if that means there’ll be a supernatural bent to a series that’s been grounded, relatively speaking, in reality since the off, but it’ll be fun finding out.
And we’ve got a fiver that Sidney will be bumped off in the first five minutes. Or she’s the killer. One of the two. Who wants to take our money?
