Panic Room, Jodie Foster's collaboration with director David Fincher, has shot straight to the top of the US cinema chart with the biggest Easter weekend opening in history. The thriller is Foster's biggest hit in recent years and its success must come as a relief to Fincher after the brilliant Fight Club's poor performance at the box office. Panic Room's $30.2 m take saw off competition from Dennis Quaid baseball movie The Rookie and Death to Smoochy, the revenge caper which sees Edward Norton dress up as a giant pink rhino. The weekend also saw Ice Age become the first film this year to take over $100million at the US box office.
