The X-Men cinematic universe is getting bigger. Alongside the regular Professor X-led canon, which continues next year with X-Men: Dark Phoenix, there's also the piss-taking Deadpool, which gets its first sequel next year; a Gambit solo movie, now due in 2019; TV spin-offs Legion and The Gifted; a mooted X-Force movie – and now The New Mutants. This latest spin-off deals with a younger batch of mutant superheroes, and the first trailer has arrived – take a look.
There's echoes of Legion in its hospital setting, but going from this first trailer, director Josh Boone is clearly looking to make a clear distinction from the rest of the X-universe, aiming towards horror, as the young mutants attempt to escape the horrific facility they find themselves imprisoned in.
Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams lead up the young cast, which also includes Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga.
The New Mutants arrives in cinemas from 13 April, 2018.
