Warners Finds Undying Love

Anyone remember that time that Warner Bros. decided it needed another vampire project? That seems like such a long time ago. What? It was actually less than two short weeks? How time flies… But it’s true: the studio clearly thinks there’s room for more fang club action and has picked up Image Comics’ miniseries Undying Love as a possible project.

Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman’s series is a genre mash-up that takes traditional vampire tropes and blends in Chinese monster legends, with just a sprinkling of the Hong Kong action genre as garnish.

We’re introduced to an ex-soldier who falls for a young woman. Trouble is, she turns out to be a member of the overly toothy undead brigade and our hero has to journey to the Hong Kong underworld, take on an army of monsters and destroy the vampire who created her in order for them to get their happy ending. No, not that sort of happy ending…

Part of the deal includes Coker and Freedman getting first crack at the script, but there’s no other talent attached at this early stage. And it’s possible that this – along with fellow recent purchase Blood Wars – could end up vanishing into the long dark night of development, never to be seen again. Everyone involved will be hoping the current vampire wave doesn’t break before either film sees the projector’s light.
