Dinosaurs! While they may have been slightly eclipsed by the likes of vampires, werewolves, zombies and aliens in recent years, the cinematic fascination with the giant, scaly beasts never quite goes extinct. And from the looks of recent developments, they’re set to come roaring* back to our screens. With Pixar working on dinos-living-amongst-humans pic **The Good Dinosaur** **and Steven Spielberg overseeing work on a likely new Jurassic Park, Warners is getting in on the reptile action by buying a sci-fi action pitch from John Clisham.
Precious little is known about the plot, aside from the intriguing pitch that it’ll see rapidly evolving dinosaurs attacking present-day Los Angeles.
The project was originally hatched as a concept for a web series at Break Media, and was in the early test footage phase when Warners executives saw it and decided to pony up cash to buy the rights to make a movie. Given how other formats – most recently TV's Terra Nova – sometimes struggle to deliver the dino goods, a film makes sense.
Clisham, who has a fair bit of experience with blockbusters having worked for James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment for years, most recently spent time as part of the team converting Titanic to 3D.
Clisham is co-writing the screenplay with Mike Bayman and plans to direct the eventual movie, assuming a giant asteroid doesn’t hit it during development.
*Pun entirely intended.
